Spinal
disorders and back pain can often be treated without surgical
intervention. Some back disorders/pain can be treated with
medication while other problems are best treated with a physical
therapy regimen.
If the pain remains severe and not responding to treatment,
some imaging tests may be required. The imaging tests show soft
tissue damage. When injury is confirmed by the imaging test,
then surgical intervention may be required. The most common
reason for surgery on the back is to remove the pressure from
a "slipped disk" when it causes nerve and and leg
pain and has not responded to other treatments.
