Dr. Overholt received a Bachelor of Arts in biology with honors and Magna Cum Laude from Lycoming College in 1979. He received his Doctor of Medicine from Temple University Medical School.

Dr. Overholt received a Dean's Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Life of the Medical School through Leadership and Service. He completed his general surgery internship and his orthopedic surgery residency at the William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan in 1988. Dr. Overholt is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.
